But saving in today’s market can be difficult – in fact, in the first six weeks of 2016, there were only six days when the Dow Jones was swinging up or down by less than 100 points[1].  These market swings, combined with shifting workplace structures and an outdated retirement benefit system, are having profound impacts of the ability for Americans  to save for retirement.  And a recent Prudential survey found that market volatility is one of the most significant risks to Americans’ retirement security.

That’s why on Wednesday, April 20, IALC will partner with The Hill to bring a group of industry experts together host “Weathering the Strom: Forum on Volatile Markets” to discuss the challenges of today’s financial market, and more importantly, to explore ways Americans can plan for a secure retirement, despite market swings and ever-change workplace structures.

Key panelists, including Senator Jeff Merkley (D-OR), Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) and Rep. French Hill (R-AR), will discuss topics ranging from ways to build a strong foundation for savings in your younger years to ways to safeguard your retirement against the unpredictability of life and the stock market. Additionally, Jim Poolman, Executive Director of IALC, will specifically speak to the importance of incorporating retirement products like Fixed Indexed Annuities that provide guaranteed lifetime income and the help bring balance to financial portfolios in tumultuous markets.
